Malaysian Media Invited to Taiwan for the 2025 Taiwan Lantern Festival – Exploring Cross-Regional Travel with Taiwan PASS
The Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, is actively promoting tourism in Taiwan. The Kuala Lumpur overseas office has specially invited 21 Malaysian travel media representatives and KOLs to visit Taiwan during the 2025 Taiwan Lantern Festival. This media delegation will experience the festival firsthand and explore the convenience of cross-regional transportation with the Taiwan PASS, showcasing Taiwan’s tourism appeal and advancements in transportation.
The Tourism Administration stated: "The Taiwan Lantern Festival is an internationally renowned light art event that attracts large numbers of domestic and international visitors each year. This year, we have specially invited Malaysian media representatives to participate from February 16 to 21. In addition to enjoying the spectacular lantern displays, the itinerary includes familiarization tours. Certain segments of the trip will specifically utilize the Taiwan PASS, allowing participants to experience Taiwan’s high-speed rail and Taipei Metro’s efficient transportation network. They have highly praised the product for enhancing cross-regional travel convenience and itinerary flexibility and look forward to fully adopting QR code-based ticketing in the future."
To align with the international travel market, the Director-General of the Tourism Administration highlighted Taiwan’s integration of High-Speed Rail (HSR), Taiwan Railways, metro systems, and Taiwan Tourist Shuttle, leading to the launch of the "Taiwan PASS - HSR Edition" and "Taiwan PASS - TRA Edition." These passes provide travelers with convenient transportation across Taiwan. Since its launch last year (2024), approximately 25,000 passes have been sold, receiving great popularity among domestic and international tourists. The "Taiwan PASS - HSR Edition" also introduced a special promotion offering "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" for two-person travel, which gained widespread exposure on major international platforms and social media in key target markets. This campaign generated significant discussion and achieved sales of over 6,000 sets within just three months. Based on Taiwan High-Speed Rail’s statistics, the Taiwan PASS accounted for the highest usage at Taipei Station (33%), followed by Zuoying (23%), Taichung (17%), and Tainan (10%). These figures demonstrate that Taiwan PASS effectively drives cross-regional travel and enhances Taiwan’s image as a convenient international travel destination.
The Tourism Administration further stated that the Taiwan Lantern Festival will be held in Chiayi County and Miaoli County over the next two years. Travelers worldwide are encouraged to plan their trips in advance. Around this time next year, we invite you to experience a "Disneyland without roller coasters" and explore the beauty of Taiwan with the Taiwan PASS!
